I began selling in Poshmark about a decade ago, without any prior knowledge of the platform.
I was initially skeptical that I would be able to sell anything if I didn’t first gain thousands of followers.
I was wrong.
Poshmark selling is actually much easier than most people think.
Listings are the biggest problem. Your items will not sell if they aren’t in front of the right audience.
The tips below helped me to reach the top 10% of app seller within three weeks of my first listing.
How can you ensure that your product is seen by your buyers? We’ll see. Amazon has a wealth of resources about Poshmark, from books Y to great tools like Ship Station or other similar products.
Poshmark: SEO for listing titles and descriptions
Poshmark users are more likely to post listings with the words “nice blouse” and “red shirt” in their titles. This may seem true, but is it really that effective?
No.
Google searches for “cute top” could yield millions of results, which means your listing will not be found among them.
Be specific instead.
This is where SEO (search engines optimization) comes in. This is where SEO (search engine optimization) comes in.
Poshmark is a great place to sell any item. One of the best ways to do this is to research the name of your item. So, for example, lululemon names every item. Instead of calling it “active tank top”, it could be called “flowy top top”.
You can add the brand name to the title and possibly the size, color or condition (using abbreviations). Let’s assume I have the lululemon bra I mentioned above, and that I’m ready for it to be added to my Poshmark listing. This would be the title of my Poshmark listing.
Red Lululemon Flow Y Tank – Size 6 (NWT)
It is more specific than “active top”, and if someone searches for a lululemon Flow Y top, the chances of your listing showing up in Google Images are much higher. This will allow more people to find it (and hopefully purchase it).
You may be wondering what NWT means. It is a shorthand to describe the condition of your item. These are some things you need to know:
- NWT – NEW with tags
- EUC – Excellent Used Condition
- NWOT – No tags

Descriptions
After we have covered your title let’s discuss how a detailed description can be helpful when you sell on Poshmark.
Poshmark offers a good amount of space for you to type but you have a limited number of characters that you can use.
My personal rule is to recite what I wrote in the title first. As an example, I would write:
Red Lululemon Flow Y Tank – Size 6 (NWT)
Then I start to describe the items I know. To avoid any back-and-forth in comments, measurements are very important for many buyers.
If you are familiar with the materials, then list them. You may be very specific about what fabric you buy. If so, please list them.
Lastly, and most importantly, make sure you mention any damage to the item. To ensure that you don’t miss any small holes or stains, make sure to inspect your item closely. Poshmark will accept a claim if the buyer discovers it.
You can add a note to the buyer stating that your item is in good condition and has not been damaged.

Here’s another example from a Coach bag that I sold on Poshmark. It had some damage.
You should always be truthful in all your listings, no matter what product you are selling.
Be reasonable. Don’t use retail prices
You may have spent $100 on something, and you want to get at least $80. But that’s not how reselling works.
You should aim to sell your NWT products at 40-50% retail, and your other items at at least 60% retail.
Remember that Poshmark charges shipping costs and takes 20% of sales. Although it may seem excessive, you have over a million users and your app ranks well on Google. This means that you will reach your target audience if your SEO guidelines are followed.
This tip will help you find potential buyers
Poshmark selling can be a little more difficult, but I was able to sell a pair boots in 24 hours using the tips I shared with you.
My first step was to search for similar listings (same brand and item style) These were my black Harley-Davidson boots.
Then I went through the lists with a lot of likes, and began following those who liked the list.
This will send them a notification when they log in, and often prompts them to check out my closet. It was very important that I shared my boots to ensure they were always visible and at the top my profile.
Yes, I noticed an increase in likes and closed a sale that morning.
Don’t forget: Poshmark can be used to purchase items you have previously sold!
All aspects (including damage) of the item should be shown.
Poshmark allows you to upload only four photos per listing. I suggest downloading a collage app so that you can combine some of your photos together for more item views.
You will need to record everything, especially if the item has been damaged. This is to protect yourself and prevent the buyer from claiming that they haven’t provided evidence of damage.
You will avoid getting a lot of comments asking you to describe the damage or provide a location. All that can be done with a simple photo
You can edit your photos but not make them fake.
Poshmark gives you the ability to apply filters to your cover photo once you have started selling.
This function is not recommended!
Why?
Because you want readers to be able to see the real content of your article. Filters can be misleading, and may ultimately stop you from making a sale.
Snapseed, an app that adjusts the brightness of photos without changing the appearance of the product, is a better choice.
Personally, I prefer to use the brush tool to create a background that is brighter. Then, I leave the element alone. The element almost pops out when I list it because the background isn’t dull or dark.
It’s worth a try.
It’s like a social network.
Poshmark is best when you share your experiences with others. You’ll want at least one day to spend time following and sharing other’s lists.
Most members will share their listings with others, and in return they will often do the same. Another great way to spread the word about your item is to share it with other members. You never know who may be searching for it in the app.

You, the seller, are responsible for printing and packing the prepaid shipping labels, as well as delivering the item to the post office.
Although you will be given a time frame to ship the item, I recommend that you do so as soon as possible. This is because 1) it’s great customer support and 2) you’ll get the money sooner (payment is not deposited until the buyer accepts or three days have passed since delivery).
So that I can quickly pack up an item after it sells, I keep priority mail boxes in my closet.
I noticed that a quicker shipping time has allowed me to get more reviews from my buyers. This leads to increased sales.
If you are unable to make it to the postoffice on the same day or next day for any reason, please contact the buyer by leaving comments on the item page. Customer service is the key to success!
Keep people informed and say thank you
Once you have sold a product, thank the buyer. Let them know that you will ship it as soon as possible. You should aim to ship the item within two days. Print your label from your own home. All you need is a few shipping boxes from US Postal Service.
Important note: Poshmark sellers must request priority mailboxes only. You won’t like to have to pay extra shipping if you choose a flat rate.
Use tissue paper to protect your item and to thank you for your support. This can make a big difference in securing a customer return.
When I ship an item, I like to inform my buyers. While you don’t need to give them every step of the shipping process, it is always helpful for them to know where their item is so they can plan when to expect it. It is also a great way to show your appreciation for customer service.
Poshmark or eBay? Which is better?
There have been a lot of discussions about selling clothes on Poshmark and on eBay. I want to share a few reasons I support Poshmark.

- You will receive your money as soon as the item has been delivered. This is regardless of whether the buyer accepted it through the application.
- Poshmark is simple to use and receives great updates.
